This just confirms once again that Christian Bale is the man.

all you people need to shut the fcuk up... Robin is apart of batman no matter what or who he is, that is the original formation of batman. Nolan's batman is dark and gritty, why cant robin be the same, we living in the 21 century and surely comic book characters can be enhanced to suit the originality of the comic book field.or probably that would be a big task for nolan... go figure.. your all a bunch of b@#tches

ah, i can see you guys are FINALLY catching onto what i've known for years...my boy bale is the sh3t. the fact that bale actually comes out and has the balloons(yeah...balloons...) to say he won't work with a sidekick makes the trilogy less of a stress on every fan's mind. the second i heard "robin" i thought...oh god, not that crap again. the only guy i could see(and who i'm a huge fan of) opposite Bale as a sidekick would be ewan mcgregor. that would be the sh3t but if Nolan couldn't script it good enough...don't bother trying. whatever plan they have, keep it up. if it ain't broke don't fix it. the only thing thats been tweaked is katie holmes(thanks cruise, ya d3uche) and if thats the only tweak or risk...then we have very little to complain about

I think Nolan and Bale should go ahead and use Robin. I'm sure they could do it well. And besides, the way Batman fans are drooling over everything Nolan/Bale, they'd like anything they do at this point. This is a non-issue in my opinion.

LOL @ u1sart.

ANYWAYS, this is great news! Robin is what started the downfall of the original Batman movies (ok well it's not completely him, but if felt like it!). I agree that Bale is definitely a sharp guy in knowing how to choose movies. This is what confuses considering he's starring in the new Terminator... will it actually be good!?

robin is gay. and i doubt bale was joking, because were i in his position, i'd quit filming too.

Robin's not such a bad idea if handled correctly (by which I mean a complete revision... and by "handled correctly" I don't mean in some creepy pederast trying-to-defend-molesting-children-as-a-life-style-choice sort of way). Case in point would be Frank Millers The Dark Knight Returns. Make Robin a girl, make her a bit delusional (full blown crazy?), a bit star eyed, maybe out for revenge. Something along the lines of the Professional. Batman in the Leon role and Robin standing in for Mathilda. And how about Ellen Page as Robin? No costume just ratty street clothes. Whoops, I just gave away the third movie... I'll be waiting for the lawyers to call. My a$$ is gonna get sued...

Not saying it's a great idea, but if it had to be done it should go that route. Honestly I'd just rather see what Nolan has in store for us for the end of the trilogy (if it does end with a third movie).

This is already shaping up to be a GREAT argument.

I agree with Merlin about this being a 'non-issue' for the following reason: It would be extremely difficult to add Robin (as we collectively identify him) to Nolan's universe and keep Batman on the dark, brooding course that we've come to love. Having said that, if ANYONE could find a way to add Robin to this franchise and NOT have it suck or become campy sh#t, it would be Nolan. Therefore, not an issue.

First things first: Robin is a lame character.

That's not the only problem. This current incarnation of Batman doesn't allow for a sidekick. He's a brooding hero. Why would someone carrying so much guilt and loneliness ever allow himself to have a sidekick? It makes no sense.

Gimy-

Interesting idea on using McGregor, though McGregor is actually almost three years older than Bale(?!) according to IMDB. Dunno 'bout you but I was NOT expecting that and I doubt they'd let Robin be older than Bats. Then it struck me that as long as we're f#cking around with ideas for Robin, why NOT have him be older?*

*For the Record, I am firmly in the Robin-is-unnecessary-and-potentially-harmful camp. I'm just toying with ideas, here.

Robin is the single worst comic book character ever. He is a contradiction to all that Nolan's manifestation of the series represents.

Simply put: Robin is a hold-over from a diffrent era of comics books, and a diffrent era of Batman. He doesn't even work in the comics post Dark-Knight Returns, but they keep jamming him in because everyone expects him to be there.

Alos, the entire concept of a single man adpoting a teenaged ward just doesn't work in today's culture, which is why you can get further in a conversation about catholic preists than you can about Robin before man-boy love jokes start up.

tombstone, i'm just a huge fan of both guys. they, along with maybe 1 or two others, are the only actors i'd go see in a movie no matter what its about. and so Ewan's older, why would he HAVE to be "the boy wonder" specifically. couldn't he just be relative or some sort of long lost-type of character where bale takes him under his wing? there's too much focus on the comic aspect of this and people fail to realize they're not doing a COMIC type of movie...its more action drama. if it was more "comic"...it wouldn't be nearly as entertaining. it'd be corny. in the first batman...joker looked like he had makeup on, in Heath's portrayal(mean joke coming...brace yourself)...it looks like he went to Tara Reid's plastic surgeon. he actually LOOKS realistic and freaky.

by the way...they could write Ewan in as a relative of Alfred and he stays with them because of his drug problems(c'mon, Trainspotting anyone? anyone?). Bruce sees the demons Rob has and they team up because Rob wants to fight back at the thugs selling drugs to kids in the streets. so the kids have better lives than he had. similar to Wayne's issue of helping out the less fortunate. but, the issue with that is...its Batman. NOT batman and robin. they wouldn't make the same mistake recent comic book movies(uhm, the hulk) have made in thinking its more a side character than the reason we all want to see the flick in the first place
