Jacob B Jan 31 Call me a contrarian/a guy with a recency bias, but I found the '94 remake of The Getaway to be more my speed than the '72 flick. It's by no means great and I admit it can feel redundant at times if you've already seen the other movie ("the book came first" will only get you so far) but I do have SLIGHTLY prefer this version. Better pacing, a more well-done climactic shootout, characters with more screen presence (maybe it's due to me being more familiar with these actors whereas I've yet to see most of Steve McQueen's films), more decently handed dialogue exchanges that MIGHT be because of Joss Whedon's script doctoring and OMG, MICHAEL MADSEN BROUGHT THAT CUTE KITTEN WITH HIM, HOW PRECIOUS! Too bad after ditching one motel, we never see the fur baby again. At least I wasn't left worried about the feline unlike some other films. Still neutral about chemistry between leads in both versions, despite their actors being married IRL at the time. Overall, a forgettable but passable remake.
