Movie Info

An unstable writer races to solve the mystery of an old Victorian house while working around the clock to finish a screenplay in time to meet her looming deadline. Alice (Brittany Murphy) has just suffered a total mental collapse, and her career will be on the line if she fails to complete her screenplay soon. Feeling unsafe in the city, Alice retreats to an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. Before long, she's hearing strange sounds and seeing fleeting apparitions out of the corner of her vision. Curious, Alice begins exploring the sprawling home and discovers a collection of videotapes hidden away in the attic. The content on the tapes is disturbing to say the least, but the more Alice watches, the more intrigued she becomes. What ever happened to the couple (Marc Blucas and Thora Birch) that made them, and what is the malevolent force that seems to be tracing her every move? Her deadline closing in fast, Alice watches helplessly as reality begins to distort and fragile psyche starts to crumble all over again. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Had some twists and a creative storyline. but the movie was pretty mediocre. Scenes dragged on longer than they needed to and to be honest not much really happened... The videotapes were unconvincing and pretty boring as well....

Very slow paced\boring with no action to it AT ALL. no blood, no gore, no action, no kills...well, until the end. But it did have a very interesting story to it, I have to admit. You really have to pay attention to the story in this one to really like it.

Not a very good movie. I almost hate to say this, since we're talking about someone who died, but Brittany Murphy was never a good actress. Not that this movie required a lot from her. It's basically a nothing happening movie. I wasn't interested in any of the characters and there's literally NOTHING going on for the majority of it. Sure they try to give it plot, but it's so transparent that it may as well have been Brittany Murphy and Thora Birch just chilling together for an hour and a half. I guarantee the movie would have been better this way. I really wasn't paying attention to any of it, I guess I should have shut it off but I didn't. I am a masochist. The best thing about this movie is the original score, which is actually a very good score. Though it's perplexing that this great score was wasted on this movie. Also another thing that greatly entertained me had nothing to do with the movie. The movie had closed captioning and EVERY TIME something made a noise the closed captioning would describe it as 'drone'. All kinds of drones too 'low drone', 'intensifying drone', 'tense drone', 'disturbing drone', and so on and so forth and I just laughed every time it came on because my way of thinking was 'Man the budget for this movie is so cheap they can't even afford decent closed captioning.' Though I'm sure that has nothing to do with the people who made the movie themselves, it just made me laugh. And another thing, I was perplexed at how many people worked on this movie, according to the credits. It really comes across like only 5 people were part of the crew. I'm sure not EVERYONE who was mentioned on the credits was on set, but this movie comes across as such low-tier that I can't imagine more than 10 people being on set at one time. The scares also pretty cheap and lame. The ending kinda sucks. It's a nothing happening movie, so this is one of those movies were I can't possibly see anyone enjoying this movie. There's literally NOTHING interesting going on here. So all in all, this is a FAILURE of a movie. Still better than Transformers 2 though. The only reason this is better than Transformers 2 is because I had to PAY to see T2, whereas this movie was provided for free. That's IT!

This movie was recommended by a person working at the video store where I rented it. I don't know if they should continue their employment, or if so, probably not a good idea to speak to the customers.
