Expanding upon the world created by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland in 28 Years Later -- but turning that world on its head -- Nia DaCosta directs 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. In a continuation of the epic story, Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) makes a discovery that could change the world as they know it -- and Spike's (Alfie Williams) encounter with Jimmy Crystal (Jack O'Connell) becomes a nightmare he can't escape. In the world of The Bone Temple, the infected are no longer the only threat to survival -- the inhumanity of the survivors can be stranger and more terrifying.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

A direct continuation of 28 Years Later that ups the gore while deepening the dread, The Bone Temple is finely adorned by Nia DaCosta's unnerving direction as well as Ralph Fiennes and Jack O'Connell's inspired performances.

Audience Says

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is as hard to look at as it’s hard to look away from -- a mad, visceral mood piece with a surprisingly substantial amount of humanity.

One of the film’s final lines echoes Churchill: “those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.” Yet the films offer a delivery from the nihilism they might seem to suggest. Go to Full Review

What makes The Bone Temple the best iteration of the “rage virus” series is how willingly it leans into absurdity. Go to Full Review

...burdened by its gateway role – advancing old threads and establishing new ones – but DaCosta’s direction, Garland’s ideas, and sharp character work keep it compelling. Go to Full Review

Thought-provoking insights raise 28 Years Later above a mere gore-fest, though violence, deafening noise, and flashing imagery create intentionally difficult moments to experience. Go to Full Review

Working from Alex Garland's heavy-handed script, director Nia DaCosta relies on fierce, ferocious spectacle - filled with stomach-turning grisly gore and ultra-violent torture porn. Go to Full Review

John F. T....... 10h Good movie but for a certain genre, it is about the HIV epidemic before meds. very errie See more Ben W 4d Very big improvement from the first film. This felt more cinematic and had a tighter grip on direction. I quickly forgot about the horrid power rangers-esque ending of the first film and found myself hating the Jimmies. They did great with this one and I look forward to the sequel. This has some great surprises. See more Miguel S 5d Good sequel the 1st installment of 28 years later. The whole series is great. See more robert M 5d really good, don’t miss. See more Leonidas Y @Tre_Y 6d I don't understand how you do a zombie / infected ppl movie without zombies / infected ppl... the last two movies are really missing the mark of why we 1st fell in love with the series. It's not even a horror movie anymore honestly. See more Ric Feb 21 Ralph Fiennes is PERFECT. Looking forward to the next and final one! See more Read all reviews
