Professor B @RT04866029 Apr 17 There is nothing like watching a summer movie (set on a Sicilian island featuring beautiful rich people having personal problems) to alleviate the late-winter blues. And it helps if they are often naked. A Bigger Splash is an existential drama high on emotional turmoil but low on plot allowing the viewer to turn their mind off and go with the flow. The rehab/vacation of Marianne (Tilda Swinton, a rock-star recovering from vocal chord surgery) and Paul (Matthias Schoenaerts, Marianne’s film-maker partner) is interrupted by the arrival of Harry (Ralph Fiennes, an over-the-top over-the-hill record producer who used to be Marianne’s lover/manager) and Penelope (Dakota Johnson) who is presented to the couple as Harry’s newly discovered 22-year-old daughter. Things get off to a rocky start and go down hill from there in a fascinating way. Reminiscent of the films of Roberto Rossellini, A Bigger Splash is not for all tastes. That can be taken as either a recommendation or a warning. See more Kenny P @RT30634855 Mar 20 The visual of the place was beautiful. The story was a snoozer. She is a rock star, yet they never show anything other than she walks out on a stage, No band, no music played and then the scene switches back to the next day at where she is staying and she can not talk - from singing I guess? Finally something happened near the last 20 minutes, when her lover was at the bottom of the pool and she screamed and vented is pain. Next day, no one really seemed very upset afterall, The guy that killed him felt uncomfortable, but everyone just moved on. I don'tknow why they had to drain the entire pool to get the guy out. Fiennes character was a creep, Johnson's was a spoiled brat, Switon had an addiction to the creep & her lover was alcoholic. None of them were worth caring about.
