TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch Jan 4 Alone, starring Tyler Posey, is a film with an intriguing premise that never delivers. A story built around isolation, limited communication, and a world falling apart should feel tense and emotionally gripping, but instead it becomes dull and repetitive. The screenplay is the biggest issue. It feels scattered and underdeveloped, relying too heavily on back-and-forth moments that never build momentum. Scenes drag without raising stakes, making the film feel longer than it is. While Posey clearly tries to carry the movie, the script gives him very little to work with, leaving his performance unable to elevate the material. Direction and pacing also fall flat, failing to create suspense or atmosphere. Rather than feeling claustrophobic or intense, the isolation just becomes boring. Ultimately, Alone is a missed opportunity—an interesting idea buried under weak writing and poor execution. Out of the blue, infected people become violent, attacking other people on the street of his condominium. Soon he learns from the news that a virus is turning people into flesh-eaters zombies. Controlling his food and water, Aidan survives locked in his apartment for many days. But when the building runs out water and feeling the solitude, he decides to commit suicide hanging himself in the living room. However, he sees a survivor in an apartment on the building in front of his. Using posters, he contacts Eva (Summer Spiro), who is living alone in her building. He decides to scavenge his neighbor's apartment looking for water and food. He finds two walkie-talkies and now he can communicate with Eva. But the zombies are dangerous and threaten their lives. Rip off is very common in the cinema industry in movies and even scenes. “Alone” is a rip off South Korean “#Alive” (2020) with minor modifications, such as the Seul replaced by Los Angeles, the drone scene replaced by a rope or the gamer protagonist per a surfer. Donald Sutherland is a plus in the plot; Eva and Aidan’s romance is corny; and the conclusion is unsatisfactory. Matt Naylor is the screenwriter of both (good) movies, but the American rip off is totally unnecessary. My vote is six. Boy so stupid, instead of focusing on himself and trynna find her sister, he procure courage for some girl. Lol. Teh?! In times like that, you don’t have the capacity to care for some rando. Instead of scavenging just for himself and trying to survive in order to muster up courage to find his sister, he prioritizes that girl. He’s too stupid. He just lucky from the start up till the end with his adrenaline rush. He’s like those parents who can’t provide for themselves, but still created an offspring just to shower emotions. LMAO. See more Tim V @Shadownomore 03/02/2025 A bachelor, living alone in an apartment, suddenly finds himself thrust into a nightmare when the zombie apocalypse breaks out. Barricading himself inside, he tries to wait it out, but dwindling supplies, and isolation eat at him as he begins to think he's the only person left. Just as he prepared to end things, spotting his pretty neighbor from the apartment across the street stops him and makes him realize he needs to be proactive. This is the plot of an amazing movie, #alive. Unfortunately Alone, it's American counter part, fails to live up to it. The acting seems to fall flat, and there a lack of dread in the atmosphere that really makes everything feel low stakes. Will our hero Aidan manage to rescue his wood be Rapunzel? Will they find the supplies needed to survive? Honestly, the characters don't seem to care, and neither do I. All this leads to an ending that falls flat and seems to leave room for a sequel that will never happen. See more Matthew B @RT77991241 10/04/2024 If I'm not mistaken this film is brought to us by the co-writer of "#Alive", it is the American adaptation of the same source material. Although seemingly much lower in budget, this film hits most of the same beats #Alive does and does it almost as effectively. It has to be said that this version does a handful of things differently than its sibling, and I enjoyed these changes quite a lot. For starters, the infected in this version are alive rather than undead, and they even retain some level of intelligence. They know how to speak, screaming things such as "kill me", "let me in" or "come here". This is can be extremely unsettling and I quite like the atmosphere this movie builds using the infected screams and pleads for death as background ambience. The infected even seem to have the ability of loose strategy, with a couple crawling up into the ventilation system and into other apartments to find fresh victims. This is something you rarely see in zombie movies. Our two main protagonists also live closer than the ones in the Korean version, making it SLIGHTLY easier for them to communicate and exchange items. Is this movie tacky? yeah. Is it (AT TIMES) poorly acted? also yes. But the film does its best with what it has and doesn't deserve the overly negative reviews. #Alive is superior but this movie has enough different ideas to merit its own existence in my opinion. The absolute worst part of this experience was the extremely abrupt ending. This COULD be forgiven if we are to assume our protagonists meet the same fate as the ones in the Korean version, that being saved by the military... but either way the ending comes across as extremely lazy. It's almost as if they unexpectedly ran out of money to film last second and just had to cut things short. But other than that, decently entertaining zombie movie.
