What to Know

Critics Consensus

Benefitting from astonishing Australian locations and Charlize Theron's raw athleticism while skimping on the finer details, Apex doesn't mark the zenith of survival thrillers but makes for a solid entry.

A fun watch, but it's hard to imagine people returning for a second viewing. It’s an efficient, effective horror movie about the limits of the human body. But it’s almost entirely experiential and in-the-moment, with no deeper levels to unpack or explore. Go to Full Review

Charlize Theron gives everything she’s got to a survival thriller right out of the cliché spin cycle, but there’s no contest when she pits herself against a raging Mother Nature and Taron Egerton’s psycho cannibal killer. They never had a chance. Go to Full Review

It is thrillingly made -- lean and mean. Go to Full Review

What truly holds the entire piece together, though, is the sheer physicality of Charlize Theron, whose absolute commitment to performing her own insane stunts is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Go to Full Review

Justin D. @RT15674855 11h Charlize Theron did an amazing job but the storyline was a tad weak -1 star See more Marvel N. @Marvel_Nerd 21h This movie progressively got worse. If you market a movie as a “hunt-or-be-hunted” thriller, then I expect goods twists and turns and a plot that actually makes sense. There were also many mistakes. For example, after going in the river and rushing to land, Charlize’s jeans aren’t even wet. I don’t know. I wouldn’t waste your time watching this one. See more Laura B @RT12739983 1d I don’t get the bad reviews at all on this one…because this movie was awesome! Total edge of your seat start to finish for me 🤷‍♀️ not one thing I didn’t like about this movie. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ See more KingKongUn Y @KingKongUn 2d worst movie I've ever seen. I think seeing Thanos return in avengers doomsday would be less boring then whatever in the grandma this is why is this so boring I just wanted to sit on my TV and repeatedly say "SKIBIDI TOILET" 1000x times while watching this 0 stars See more mustapha B. @moosebazzi11 3d Trash had potential tho See more Marco L @decatur555 3d Apex is an effective survival thriller that works well enough while you are watching it. It has tension, pace, a hostile landscape and a clear hunter-versus-prey dynamic that keeps the story moving without needing too many explanations. Charlize Theron is strong, as always, bringing physical presence and emotional credibility to material that could easily have felt generic. The film is well shot and direct, with enough danger and momentum to remain entertaining. Still, it never becomes truly memorable. The story is familiar, the characters are broadly drawn and some moments feel forced or predictable. It is not a bad film at all, just a fairly disposable one: tense, watchable and professionally made, but unlikely to stay with you for long. See more Read all reviews
