What to Know

Critics Consensus

Benefitting from astonishing Australian locations and Charlize Theron's raw athleticism while skimping on the finer details, Apex doesn't mark the zenith of survival thrillers but makes for a solid entry.

A fun watch, but it's hard to imagine people returning for a second viewing. It’s an efficient, effective horror movie about the limits of the human body. But it’s almost entirely experiential and in-the-moment, with no deeper levels to unpack or explore. Go to Full Review

Charlize Theron gives everything she’s got to a survival thriller right out of the cliché spin cycle, but there’s no contest when she pits herself against a raging Mother Nature and Taron Egerton’s psycho cannibal killer. They never had a chance. Go to Full Review

It is thrillingly made -- lean and mean. Go to Full Review

The last act contains some of the film’s biggest surprises and departures from expectation, which makes Apex, if not exactly original, at least a particularly potent assemblage of familiar pieces. Go to Full Review

Even though it follows a familiar formula, "Apex" is an unpretentious, bare-bones affair that wisely focuses on Theron’s physical performance and the mercilessness of the beautiful but unforgiving landscape. Go to Full Review

What truly holds the entire piece together, though, is the sheer physicality of Charlize Theron, whose absolute commitment to performing her own insane stunts is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Go to Full Review

Matias F @RT65064213 1h This movie before streaming wouldn’t have existed. I don't understand how artists like CharlizeTheron would even accept participating in a project like this. People is going to remember her for the legacy, not for the money she doesn't get to spend in her lifetime. See more brittany R @RT87199463 18h I feel bad reviews are bad anymore. It’s a shame I can’t give them credit but I am so tired of Netflix film. I am no longer a subscriber. All their Netflix films and independent films taking over is awful. Screen time "number over quality is junk". A bad film will get clicked out real fast and half of the time u won’t waste my time on a Netflix film anymore because it’s not writhing time. It’s watering down the entire movie market. It’s ruining it, good visuals and scenes but so vague it’s not worth watching. I have an issue with independent filmers. It’s like they have no clue how to make a movie and studied nothing at all. Without introductions the film is a flop; why waste money on hundreds of flops. American filming industry is becoming a joke. Movies most are just bad anymore and it’s like no one even studies their craft anymore. If a film has bad film quality, no music, bad audio, mismatched mouths, vague scripts, no introductions , no face shots or far shots, then nor worth it See more Will S @RT25771134 1d A satisfactory thriller about a kayaking adventure gone wrong. While packed with a good amount of action and jumpy moments, this thriller -in-the-rapids kept to the shallow water. See more Allison B @RT70251575 1d This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time. Some scenes were intense and made me jump! 4/5 stars just because I probably won’t rewatch it again, but it was a good thriller overall with a well rounded plot. See more Keith B @RT07632747 2d Story is a retread waste of two very good actors. See more Katy P @kkjays92 4d I really didn't enjoy this movie. Yeah, there was a lot of action. I was like, okay more fighting & drama. The movie didn't grab my attention. I only watched all of it because of my boyfriend. He even said it was "okay." The one good thing & extremely weird part was him freak dancing to that song. That's sad for a whole movie. See more Read all reviews
