Ibrahim H @rottonira Mar 7 The film does a good job of showing the world of Italy post WW2 as we know it. Using real people and a real location to keep to the Italian neoliberalism movements design. It looks like something a college student would make. The characters don't act like real people, they act like actors... except for the little boy, who was really good. See more Par H @Parhwy Jan 24 Man, who is not paying attention at a job fair, ends up with a job requiring a bicycle. Three days of shenanigans ensues. Friday to Sunday. Released in 1948. Italian. The shenanigans have more drama and pathos. Perhaps I should have used a word like odyssey. We go to a market. We go to the police. We go to a friend. We go to a church. We go to a brothel. We go to a restaurant. We go to a sports game. The main character of the film is the dad however I would argue the main star is his son, Bruno, played by Enzo Staoiola (who only passed in June 2025). This kid can act. This is not a Homeric epic. This is a tragedy. There is a scene I was sure – certain – involving Bruno’s knowledge of the subsequently stolen bike which would prove a happy ending. There is no such end. We go to hell. Dad’s and son’s defeated, beaten faces then their backs to the camera walking away into an uncertain future. FINE. Credits.
