danelectro T @danelectro Aug 27 An impressive directorial debut, first entitled For Aicha, the name of Boushra's mom, but reedited into this final film Boushra. Imagine animal characters as we see in Zootropia, but in a film with 1% of that one's budget. Despite the visual limitations of a film made on Blender, an open-source digital movie software, the expressions on the characters' faces and the dialogue are priceless, so realistically bringing them to life. It is an autobiographical account of the director, a young woman who as a lesbian felt it safer to move to New York owing to Morocco's criminal treatment of gay people. The film illustrates an extended loving family who very honestly describe how difficult it was for them to accept Boushra's sexual orientation. The scene in which Boushra must describe how hard it was for her to avoid mention of her identity with her own family was heartbreaking. You might find the visuals at times limited, but they are more than compensated for by this human, moving, story. See more Read all reviews
