What to Know

Critics Consensus

Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons are at the top of their game in Bugonia, a bonkers entertainment that applies director Yorgos Lanthimos' whip-smart method to modern society's madness.

Audience Says

Wildly audacious, Bugonia may be the bleakest film yet in Yorgos’ filmography, sure to satiate fans of peculiar, deranged, and pessimistic satire.

This is not everyone’s cup of tea, obviously, but it’s pitched expertly on a fulcrum of absurdity and caustic honesty about the fix we’re in while poking the sore spots of various modern social ills. Go to Full Review

That point may be that human beings are intolerable, insignificant, and unnecessary. I guess I prefer my misanthropy more clever and less insincere. Go to Full Review

This takes me back to [Yorgos Lanthimos'] Dogtooth in the bold weirdness of it and the challenge of "Are you going to go with us on this trip or not?" Go to Full Review

Great performances and cool aesthetic. Weird message and even more unwanted time in this rut that Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone have fallen into. Go to Full Review

Lex 4d Keeps you guessing and changing teams throughout. See more Joanne Kiefer 5d Absolutely horrendous audience… could not watch it. It was absolutely way too offensive towards Starseeds, human safety, a female, & anything about money. I feel like it was completely too scary… when I’ve personally loved movies like “Smile 2” & “The Substance.” I’ve personally been through a similar trauma that was depicted in this movie. I’ve been in shock for an hour and a half now after only watching 30 minutes. I think it’s a very bad ritual of a movie. I watched the entire film at home in the evening & wouldn’t change a word or anything about what I wrote. The “SHOCK” is something that EVIL for sure. Totally worthless trash! Veiled disclosure. Predictive programming. See more Stephen B Mar 1 They Live meets Misery in the bleakest black comic commentary on our current times that one could conjure. High weirdness, accessible only by the dangerously grounded performances of two top-tier superstar film actors at the tops of their respective games, with judicious assistance from some incredibly adept and able supporting actors, all of whom embody their roles with just the right amount of pathos, bathos and hair-trigger tragicomedy. Its unlike anything youve ever seen UNLESS youve seen the South Korean original, Save the Green Planet, an equal work of devastating science friction genius. See more Read all reviews
