In the absence of any feel for intrigue, not least the potential intricacies of a husband-and-wife spook team, Johnson shuffles a deck of espionage-film cliches largely at random. Go to Full Review

CHIEF OF STATION is tense, violent, thrilling and, perhaps most rewardingly, it’s familiar and comfortable in its construction. Go to Full Review

The screenplay is by George Mahaffey and while his dialogue has a good rhythm to it, his plotting doesn't get very deep. Go to Full Review

This generic spy thriller consists of rudimentary action and chase scenes, tons of exposition as characters explain the plot to one another, and textbook twists that lack life or spark. Go to Full Review

[Chief of Station] does give Johnson a chance to flex some filmmaking muscles of a different sort... [It] isn’t going to win any awards, but it gets the job done with efficiency and precision. That’s the Jesse V. Johnson guarantee. Go to Full Review

Jelisije J @jjosifovic 12h Boring and predictable from start to finish. See more Loren B @RT81701184 6d Aaron Eckhart is terrific and a well written film would be lucky to have him star in this genre. This was however one of the most formulaic, cliché filled films I have ever seen, with the most hollow and uninformed dialogue I have heard in a long time. I imagine the assignment was to be one of "keep it simple, this is a James Bond-esque blockbuster type of project"-I don't know who's doing it was, I don't have any information as to whether the writer's script was very altered, or the director was forced by a studio to do xyz-but it did not come close to that satisfying-albeit-simple mark. It also didn't attempt the route of intellectual and poetic espionage film alla 'A Most Wanted Man' or 'The Good Shepherd', so it unfortunately did neither. It is like a John Wick film sans having it's own specific flare or well done action scenes, with a lot more predictability. See more ken A @RT34866614 Aug 14 It's great fun. Excellent filmography, beautiful scenery, great characters. Familiar but still enjoyable. Awesome way to spend 90 mins. See more Charles W @RT30923462 Aug 13 Low budget crap. Don’t waste your time. I guess Aaron Eckhart either has a ton of debt or he has no shame. See more K T @ktthatsme Aug 12 Terrible acting and fight scenes… See more Jonathan G @NEGeez Aug 11 Both the action and the cinematography are so hackneyed, and the dialog so stilted that Team America: World Police works better as an action movie, not just as a parody of an action movie, than Chief of Station. Plus, the acting of the puppets in Team America is way better than the mail-it-in performances in Chief of Station. The plot development is non-existent. Why are any of the bad guys doing what they're doing? I don't want to insert spoilers for those who may want to watch it (Why? Be kind to yourself!) but if you've seen several action movies, including parodies of action movies, you should able to predict what happens in any given scene long in advance. Nonetheless, you'll be left wondering why what happened happened. And if you make it to the end you'll be left wondering why you sat through the entire movie. See more Read all reviews
