Jon Baker and Frank "Ponch" Poncherello have just joined the California Highway Patrol in Los Angeles, but for very different reasons. Baker is a former motorbike rider who's trying to put his life and marriage back together. Poncherello is a cocky, undercover FBI agent who's investigating a multimillion dollar heist that may be an inside job. Forced to work together, the inexperienced rookie and hardened veteran begin clashing instead of clicking while trying to nab the bad guys.

It is really no plot at all, merely a vehicle to allow Shepard and Pena to riff about kinky bedroom habits, homophobia and so on. Those flippant exchanges fluctuate from funny to flat.

Taken purely on its own, Chips is a wretched attempt at an action comedy. I can only imagine how it looks to viewers with emotional investment in the source material

The crudity flows as easily as the violence in this low-IQ outing, with a special emphasis on gay panic humor and an even greater emphasis on sexist humor (this is the sort of film that suggests that if a woman isn't a 10, she might as well kill herself).

If you like fun and motorcycles it’s a good watch. Don’t look for authenticity or anything real world and just enjoy the ride. It’s all made with a lot of tongue in cheek. I love re watching it. Just my own personal opinion and tastes 😁

I thought it was a really strong attempt. Writing was great, direction was great, acting great. It had it all, except I just didn't really laugh. It's not that it wasn't funny, it was funny in that way where I would say to myself in my head, "that's funny," but I didn't actually laugh. Dirty Grandpa was another one that I found similar. I saw something else recent with Deniro that I had to turn off, but Dirty Grandpa I watched all the way through and thought it was good, I just didn't laugh. It was missing that one thing to carry it across.
