"Downton Abbey," an enjoyable but uneven film adaptation of the beloved PBS series, seems designed to give fans what they want.

I, too, got swept up in this Disney-movie fantasia of benevolent, gracious aristocrats and their plucky servants all working together to... serve dinner to the king. Downton does that to you.

It is in the end a reassurance machine, showing us that a clear-cut class system can only be even more treasured by those at the bottom than those at the top.

The big-screen version of Downton Abbey is still engaging, well-dressed comfort food. It just doesn't quite feel like a full meal.

It's not a great movie, not by any definition, but I happily lapped up every minute. Nice to see you back, Downton; this fan missed you.

A big-screen bonus episode of the popular series that should thoroughly satisfy fans.

A couple of Fellowes' narrative contrivances are decidedly creaky and the story's essential soapiness is more obvious on the big screen, but its many charms still encourage your indulgence.

[T]he film is utterly, ineffably, and often fabulously, Downton.

This is Julian Fellowes' Avengers; they can assemble over and over, and there will always be enough tea cakes go around.

The film is delightful fun, even though the plot is obvious almost to the point of stupidity, and there are few surprises for the well-known characters, some of whom are handed unnecessary subplots to give everyone some screen time.

Two thumbs "Downton."

[T]his journey to the past may end up feeling ultimately less nostalgic than backward-looking.

It is at all times ridiculous - but, I have to admit, quite enjoyable.

Satisfyingly sumptuous.

The movie has two romances, and neither is particularly well developed. But that's OK. The thrill of the film lies in seeing everyone again. At least for a couple of hours.
