Critics Consensus

It may lack the absurd humor that underlined the original, but the new-look Evil Dead compensates with brutal terror, gory scares, and gleefully bloody violence.

The current reboot feels uncreative. Watching the new film just made me miss Bruce Campbell's chin and shots of Raimi running insane through the woods. Go to Full Review

Using the very latest Cern-tested atom interferometry, we can reveal that Evil Dead is precisely, exactly - in the coldest atomic terms -the film that you were expecting. Go to Full Review

Happy days for those who love this sort of thing. But Raimi's effort, perhaps because we hadn't seen the plot before, was infinitely more scary. Go to Full Review

Fede Alvarez, has a rare misfire as he makes changes and retains elements that are not faithful to the spirit of the original and prioritizes surprises over relatable character development and dynamics. Go to Full Review

While there were some moments that were very disturbing, I thought it was artfully done and didn’t ever cross the line into tasteless or exploitative. Go to Full Review

Fede Álvarez’s Evil Dead, while not entirely following the Evil Dead traditions the cult classic is famous for, creates a further sprawl into the Raimi-verse, bringing the world of the Deadites firmly into modern day. Go to Full Review

Jonatan Feb 26, 2025 This movie is bananas! Gory , nasty, brutal, and unrelenting. Amazing practical effects and kills! People complain cause the tone is different but this is its own thing! Must watxh. See more Gunner I @RT64755212 1 day ago I remember going to see this movie when it was in theaters. It takes things back to the very beginning of the evil dead and I love every minute of it. I assure you, this movie is not for the faint hearted. This movie is rough in all perspectives.... But it sure is worth the watch. To make things a bit more rough, let's all sing this together. "Baby, little baby... It's time to say goodbye. Baby, little baby... I'll miss you, day and night. Baby, my sweet baby... I'll write you everyday. Baby, don't cry baby... I wish that I could stay." Sleep good! See more Georgia P @RT70958088 Aug 31, 2026 So gory and thrilling See more Nekrips R @RT10725321 Aug 30, 2026 As a remake, this movie turned out to be pretty weak, but it could have been worse. Overall, they decided to make the plot more serious and dramatic. But the movie lost that unique atmosphere of classic horror films that was present in the original. The special effects aren’t bad, although by 2013 they could have done a much better and more interesting job. They also could have allocated a larger budget for such a legendary franchise. Although I doubt that would have saved the film with a script like this. There weren’t enough interesting moments. The only thing that really stood out was the final scene with the bloody rain. See more Anfeernee M @Anfeerneem Aug 27, 2026 Evil Dead 2013 really became my top favorite horror movie ever! The gore and the intensely moments left you in the edge of your seat. Mia did an amazing job and made me root for her till the end! One of the very best evil dead films See more Cinema S @cinema_sensei Aug 26, 2026 This one is a 5/5 for me because of both the experience and the memories attached to it. I grew up watching Evil Dead, and revisiting it now, I was surprised by how well the horror still works. The practical effects, brutal gore, terrifying atmosphere, and Jane Levy's performance still make it an intense experience. I know the characters and story aren't the deepest, and it lacks some of the humor of the originals, but I genuinely don't care. This was a great horror experience as a kid, and it's still a damn good horror movie now. See more Read all reviews
