Fear Street Part One: 1994 kicks off the trilogy in promising fashion, honoring the source material with plenty of retro slasher appeal.

Audience Says

It has more enthusiasm for its throwback setting than actual inspiration, but Fear Street's first installment does just enough to make slasher fans interested in its sequels.

The first film draws very heavily on the visuals of the 90s boom in teen horror. Go to Full Review

Deena and Sam's romance is a push-pull between two paper-thin characters whose relationship never gains the contours that make you care about its survival. Go to Full Review

1994 leans very much on recognizable nostalgia to build a sense of place-hell, the movie opens at a mall!-before getting into the bloody business at hand. Go to Full Review

The young cast is excellent. The lore points and witchy nursery rhyme hint at more twisted fun to come. And Janiak’s eye for crisp horror keeps things refreshingly propulsive and infinitely surprising. Go to Full Review

If you're looking to get more into horror, or even introduce your older teens to the genre (and I mean 15/16 plus – there are some over-the-pants action and sex scenes, which are just not fun to watch as a family), I really recommend these movies... Go to Full Review

Blu B @RT43513976 2 hrs ago It's like if someone took Stranger Things and mixed it with Scream (1996). That's the best way to describe this. No suprise given the studio. The music is solid here and is the best thing. During any action scenes it works well and ramps the franticness up. Everything else isn't bad. The direction isn't bad but sometimes it feels like it just diappears at times. The lighting in this alternates from moody or neon like to dull and lifeless. Scenes can look super basic on a dime. The plot makes sense but the problem is it's bloated and trying to do way too much. With setting up so many previous killers you can't even keep track and none of them are given any real backstory. The film also feels like it makes up the rules of the Witchcraft as it goes so there isn't really any consistentcy. The tone is an odd self aware dark humor that also has a problem with explaining things a bit too much. Than it tries developing all 5 of the characters at times alternating between keeping them together See more Andrew R. @RT39097518 1 day ago A bloody, gory fun ride from start to finish with a good sense of humor to go along with it. Finally someone has figured out how to honor 80's and 90's horror properly! It definitely resonates with me because I was the same age as the main characters in 94. As a matter of fact my friends and I were filming our own horror movie for our video productions class exactly when these events of the movie were taking place. Even crazier, 1978 takes place on July 19th 1978......my first birthday. So these movies have a special place in with me. Tough to decide which is the best, but I thought 1978 was the weakest. Still great but the characters are nowhere near as likeable. If you are an 80's and 90's horror fan you will respect these movies See more Melchizedek Franz Noval S @Melchizedek Sep 27, 2026 This was such a fun throwback to 90's slasher movies. Part One - 1994 doesn't reinvent the genre, but it knows what kind it wants to be and fully commit to it. Its creepy atmosphere, gruesome kills, supernatural mystery, and ’90s nostalgia make it an easy, entertaining watch. I liked how the movie gradually develops its mystery while delivering plenty of classic slasher moments. Some kills are surprisingly brutal, and the chemistry between Deena and Sam adds emotional weight beyond simply surviving the night. The soundtrack also perfectly captures the setting and brings plenty of energy. The pacing and dialogue can feel a little cheesy at times, but that’s part of the charm. Overall, Fear Street: Part One – 1994 is a stylish, bloody, and nostalgic slasher with enough mystery to keep things moving. It left me eager to see where the next parts go. Not perfect, but definitely a great time. See more Yash T @RT62252812 Sep 21, 2026 I found it overrated. There are several horror and slasher movies and series that are out there which are way better than this trilogy. The posters and trailers did not do justice to the movie series. It’s a bit gory, unsettling, and scary. The characters are likable. The storyline is easy to follow and enjoyable across the series. Love it!!!!
