For Worse is a gentle middle-aged rom-com that deliberately lowers expectations even as it faithfully hits all the genre beats. It’s an approach designed to charm without dazzling, and at that it succeeds admirably.

It takes awhile for this to get rolling with Landecker sometimes taking situations to extreme for emotion or laughs. But she develops her character better in situations she has obviously experienced herself, with a chance For Better in the end.

Somehow this is filmed like a Tv series like Parks and Rec and the Office, with a very loose story and a lot of improvised conversations and sexual jokes and gags with big MAIN CHARACTER SYNDROME. The usage of modern slang and terminology is forceful and there are so many unnecessary dancing scenes in the third act. The main theme of dating and sexualized age gaps not being a problem is very weird in today's age.

This is a wonderful thoughtful sophisticated rom-com that makes you laugh and cry at the same time. The actor, writer, director is an amazingly gifted woman who I am eager to follow. It is personal yet rings so many bells for so many. A hopeful story in the middle of a world of loss, divorce and broken lives and hearts. Amazing talent!!
