Greg D Jul 18 This film follows the time-honored tradition of air disaster films: a passenger list filled with little stories about their lives get on an ill-fated plane which encounters disaster in the skies, but is saved by a heroic pilot and crew--just like the progenitor of the genre, The High and The Mighty. This film takes itself very seriously and is able to generate considerable tension despite some clunky theatrics and voice-overs at the end. William Devane, with his crinkly face and lop-sided grin, pulls off the heroic captain role in one of the best performances of his career. Shelly Hack is also surprisingly effective. In place of the onboard panic as the plane descends to crash, typical of so many of these air disaster films, we're given a review of the inner thoughts of the passengers, which is a bit hammy, but seems more likely than the histrionics of the Airport series of films. This film is worth the time it takes to watch it. See more Susan K Jul 1 This was a suspenseful movie based on a true aviation incident.
