It's a strong debut by Weekes and nails the essential part of a horror movie: the horror. Go to Full Review

The film has much to say about grief, guilt, assimilation and the on-going refugee crisis. And on top of all that, it's also a nifty nerve-jangler. Go to Full Review

His House is a story of guilt, loss, and the challenges of assimilating to another culture. It demonstrates fiction’s ability to foster empathy, and proves there is value in using a well-orchestrated scare-fest as a vessel for such powerful themes. Go to Full Review

This is exactly the type of storytelling that the horror genre excels at. It amplifies real human emotions and fears to the level of overload, resulting in a uniquely empathetic experience. Go to Full Review

Clment T @RT65935519 1d The start is good, story, main char, the horror climb slowly but not work after that... sleeping final See more Rico N @RT95318436 3d No idea how this would score so high on Rotten Tomatoes. Would not recommend anyone to watch it. All over the place and the horror scenes are done without suspense and poorly executed. The main character tries his best in grabbing your emotions, but the storyline could not keep my attention and I had to fight just to stay awake. Never mind watching the movie. Writing this as it is playing with 10 minutes left, which says a lot. See more Nikki S. @Niikkii 5d It was a very unique storyline. I was expecting just an eerie, typically horror movie. What I got was something much different, and much deeper. The tone is that of guilt, grief, loss, fear, and the unknown. I loved the cultural aspect and that this was more than just a scary movie. The acting was top tier. See more Jody C @JodyCazz Jun 16 A very good horror movie focusing on genuine creepy scares, a well written script and an emotionally confined environment. The fear and pressure this film creates is great. This style of supernatural horror I can enjoy because it has some unique imagery that is very different from 90% of the american supernatural scene. I found myself disappointed in the decisions of our main characters here. However instead of it annoying me like it does in most movies, I found myself trying to see the characters point of views to try to understand their reasoning. It is a complex layer of emotions and i genuinely enjoyed the unease this movie put me through. A bit of a lackluster ending but nothing awful. It wrapped up well enough I suppose. Scare Factor: 7/10 See more Joshua H @SnoopySoup11 Jun 8 Rating: 6.2/10 - I picked this movie to watch with a group of friends because I saw that it had really good reviews. To start off I want to say that I probably should rate this movie higher, however it was not really my type of movie or the movie that I was searching for in our group. The problems I had with this movie was the slower pacing and the focus on grief over horror (while they did a good job displaying the grief, its not what I wanted). The things I liked was the acting, the main character (I really liked Bol's positive mindset and truly trying to start new), the horror parts (while few, they still did a good job when it was horror focused), and the ending of the movie (Bol making the sacrificial play and Rial saving him, Bol and Rial stopped running from trauma and accepting it, and Rial finally trying for a new life.) See more Nathan James L @Nathanjlark Jun 4 It seemed many missed the point entirely, so much so, it's a waste of time explaining. While a large number watched in hope of a shallow scares only affair, they were left disappointed. But the film delves much deeper than this. If you get the message then you are a wise and heart felt individual. Or.......could there be a more sinister reason for their disappointment. An impressive, unique, quite arthouse 90 minutes with solid performances. Not too big an investment of your time. See more Read all reviews
