LoLo C @BacioDiTosca 6d Some good to this film: Visually pretty, an appealing young lead, well trained young dancers, & some good messages, eg don’t ditch your friends when they’re down, & it’d be convenient to do so. But quite hokey & incoherent. Basic conflict for Hope: baseball or ballet? Baseball just fades from the movie; ballet it is! Another thing fading: Hope’s bro; we meet him early on but he sort of disappears. Also, Hope’s bestie, Kayla—her loss of the use of her legs is a major plot point, & then it’s not, & Kayla is calling Dani her best friend, worrying about competing w. her. Pick a story, people. Then, the climactic sequence w. Hope dancing as Clara in THE NUTCRACKER: is it a performance or a dress rehearsal? Unclear. And, given that Hope only arrives in time by flying in a helicopter (insurmountable traffic), how does everyone else get there in time? So, all in all a muddle, but sweet & mostly inoffensive. Not a must-see. See more J R @RT12823370 03/04/2025 First, it’s nice to have a clean, G rated movie for kids that’s sweet, however it was slow, inconsistent and visibly low budget. My kids noticed how Hope kept appearing with, then without, stage make-up on the way to the nutcracker; the acting was slow and poor, and there was no actual dancing, merely graceful arm movements. It was a huge disappointment and sadly boring. The story follows a young girl who grows in her aspirations in dance, her relationship with her family, and her empathy with friends. I think this is a great watch for families and people wanting to learn more about the world of dance and what it takes!
