An extremely important film. It deals with the truth of the horror of the other Prisoners of War, the young boys and girls who return from the battles permanently scarred.

Interesting at what war makes us into. How callus and disconnected some men become. This film stays with you.

An unfathomably underrated piece of murky, riveting crime drama. Not sure why everyone slept on this one. "In The Valley Of Elah" is as much a sobering study of war and its psychological effects as it is an engrossing, labyrinthine true crime piece. Tommy Lee Jones' performance is masterful in the professional sense, giving the audience just enough to know what's going on underneath, but not enough to encroach upon the realms of melodramatic "scene chewery." Charlize Theron's supporting turn is just as commendable, acting as more of an olive branch to the audience than anything else, but doing so in a skillful and tender fashion. Roger Deakins cinematography is -- as always -- to be commended. And Mark Isham's score is cerebral and appropriately dark. This is a haunting and, at times, horrifying film with a whole lot to say, but with nowhere near the amount of "chip" resting on its shoulder as some of the more rhetorically unabashed films you see nowadays. In fact, I'd go so far as to say this movie came out at the wrong time. It probably would have done much better now than it did in 2006/2007. It certainly holds up for me.

Not alot needs to be said except a great and accomplished cast, a very captivating storyline, and one of the more enjoyable and well done movies.

After our placement of Dad's military headstone, u found this to be very thought provoking as well as a Fathrrs Most Sincerity today get the the bottom of his Son's murder. Any Veteran from any War is understandably a different person both during and after Catapulting exposures. admiral Actors portrayed also.

On the surface a crime mystery, the movie subtly comes to reveal the harrowing effects that war inflicts on all who are involved; Jones' subdued and controlled performance is excellent.

Paul Haggis succeeds with another film about the politics of war and loss exceptional performances by Tommy Lee Jones, Charlize Theron, and Susan Sarandon a father gets news of his son going missing during the Iraq War then learns that he's been found dead much later, now he's determined to find out what actually happened everything leads to strippers to drugs to the horrors of war damaging a soldier it's so heartbreaking watching this father grieve and struggle to find answers so he can properly say goodbye the story of Goliath is also mixed in with how the war in Iraq involves two sides on opposite ends; it's easy to take out monsters by getting close to them and hitting them hard, they exist in all forms whether for good or evil war is hard on everyone, not just the soldiers but it can also screw them up royally

This dark, emotionally heavy, character driven crime drama mystery film has stellar performances from a solid cast, the plot is utterly engrossing, the script is decent, it looks great and though it can be a tad heavy handed at times with some of the themes I was so utterly captivated by the plot and characters it didn't really bother me.

Fine performances from Tommy Lee Jones and Charlize Theron alongside an impactful antiwar conclusion make In the Valley of Elah a slightly above average crime drama.
