Blake- N @PBSAniDom 39m John Henry (2020) is a messy and disappointing attempt at a modern take on the folklore character that never really comes together. Instead of delivering a compelling or focused story, it feels unfocused, uneven, and oddly dull considering its dramatic premise. The pacing struggles, the tone feels inconsistent, and the script doesn’t give the material much weight or direction. Even with a well-known lead, the film doesn’t manage to build tension or emotional impact in a meaningful way, leaving most of it feeling flat and underdeveloped. What should have been a gritty or powerful reimagining ends up feeling more like a missed opportunity that never finds its identity. Overall, it’s a rough watch that doesn’t deliver on its potential.
