Forrest M @RT32281296 2d "Jose Rizal" is regarded as an epic movie about the national hero of the Philippines. But overall, it leaves the viewers empty and lacking. Rizal was regarded as a fearless patriot but the clarity of his agenda is never defined in the film particularly when it emphasizes his novel: "Noli Me Tangere" which focuses on anti-clerical influence while "El Filibusterismo" focuses on promotion of an uprising against the Spanish empire but also tries to put down the Filipinos ability to run a nation on its own due to lack of solidarity and unity. Finally, it fails to address that the Filipino patriots abroad embraced Freemasonic principles which was gaining steam back in the later part of the 19th century after the papal states separated from the Holy See which could have inspired Rizal to promote the Philippines to do the same.
