Thomas V @TomVee Aug 15 This is a rather good, relatively polished piece of Italian Gothic horror which tones down some of the excesses that many of these works are prone to, just enough to keep it from becoming silly. It's also pretty successful early example of the creepy supernatural kid trope. the film also has a better story, better acting, even better dubbing than many of its counterparts from this era, The production values are also better than we often see in these films, and this allows Bava's stylish visual aesthetic to not be bogged down by low camp. If it was at least slightly scary at some point it would have helped (ok always say something positive: the lighting on the spiral staircase was kinda cool.) Unwatchable and wildly overrated.
