When Orsolya oversees the eviction of a local elderly man in Cluj, Transylvania, the unintended consequences come to shatter her and her understanding of her place in society. Spiraling into an existential crisis, she traverses the city, meeting with various people in her life -- her husband, an old friend, her former student, a priest -- to consider and reconcile her place in an increasingly maddening modern world in award-winning filmmaker Radu Jude's latest furious and hysterical moral parable.

Jude is hardly precious about his craft. But that’s because he’s confident you’ll leave bursting with thoughts and feelings about the price of progress, the weight of history and the ways we struggle to do right amid so much that’s wrong. Go to Full Review

This warped, slimy riff on Roberto Rossellini’s Europa ’51 refocuses that classic cinematic guilt trip on the amusing insufficiencies of modern self-righteousness. Go to Full Review

A movie about the way we live now, the way we cope now, and, perhaps most of all, the way we rationalize now. Go to Full Review
Erik Reeds Spectrum Culture 2d
While Kontinental ‘25 doesn’t reach the highs of Radu Jude’s more deliberate masterworks, it avoids many pitfalls that a weaker director would fall into, and is surprisingly heartfelt in a way that Jude hasn’t been since Barbarians. Go to Full Review
Siddhant Adlakha Truthdig 4d
Through droll, static direction and political caricature, Jude constructs a typically acerbic social satire and his most character-focused work to date. Go to Full Review

Jude isn’t *not* self-indulgent, but he’s certainly never boring, either. Go to Full Review

Stephen C @bob25009 Mar 27 The worldwide gross is $78,304.00. See more Runa R @runa.r Jan 15 I would give this film 3.8 stars, but since that option does not exist, I give it 4. It is an enjoyable watch and raises the questions we are all familiar with in Europe regarding the encroachment of real estate companies to build hotels. The film shows beautiful inhabited areas that coexist, side by side, with signs of decay and poverty. Both the buildings and the people are the same. See more dlma1 M @dlma1 Nov 5 I saw this film at the AFI Film Festival in Hollywood. A Romanian film about a bailiff (more similar to a Sheriff in US terms), who is forced to evict a squatter from a building, with disastrous results for them both. The film is initially intriguing but then it degenerates into sophomoric philosophizing by the bailiff and the supporting cast. Not recommended. 5/10. See more Read all reviews
