Franco Amore is putting together his retirement speech. Tonight is the last night in 35 years of distinguished service in the Police force. In his long career, he writes, he's never shot his gun to kill, and he’s done his best to keep honest. He doesn't know that this will be the longest and most challenging night of his life and that everything that matters to him will be in danger: his role as a servant of the State, his unconditional love for his wife Viviana, his friendship with his working partner Dino, and his own life. Tonight in Milan, events will unfold frantically while the light of dawn keeps moving farther.

Writer-director Andrea Di Stefano crafts a taut, stylized thriller where we are never certain if our protagonist and his loyal wife (a terrific Linda Caridi) will make it through the suspenseful, increasingly maddening night.

You'll probably work out where things are heading before the film ends, but, fueled by a strong performance from Favino, our lead character Amore seems to know as well. This is a very decent and stylish crime thriller.

Last night of amore is not your typical police film. It starts at the end and loops back around. Well acted and enagaging. Its visually stunning. Makes you want to go to italy.

It doesn't work that way. An impressive film with a good narrative structure. Including a scene that has to be completely reinterpreted on the second viewing. However, the plot twists are implausible and from my own experience I can say: no, shortly before retirement you are much more serene and self-confident. Not sure if the ending was shown in full on television.

The title of this movie take it full raison d'etre at the end because before that it is more a police suspense, then it become a thriller, very well done with an incredible good rhythm, making the 125 minutes feel like 95.
