10/08/2021 "Of course I'm in, it was my idea!" After a worldwide zombie apocalypse caused by a viral outbreak, three slacker friends believe themselves to be the last of the living. They spend their days lounging and enjoying the finer things in life while bashing the zombies they cannot avoid. One of the three is a metalhead with "Robocop" and "Terminator" posters who loves muscle cars (so you know he's cool...right?). The trio meet an attractive lady who happens to be some kinda scientist, so they simp for her and try to help her find a cure for the disease. Great distinctions in the personalities between the three (do they represent the id, ego, and super-ego?! I may be reading too much into it...). The music was especially annoying (what the hell was with that StuckMojo/Within Temptation-sounding song over the credits?), but there was some good usage of sound otherwise (the beach scene comes to mind). If you like Kiwi comedy/horror, check out: "Braindead", "Black Sheep", "Deathgasm", "What We Do in the Shadows", etc. See more 01/20/2019 Watching this back to back with the movie Hide and Creep for my Craptacular Compilations Vol 2 list, I found myself blurring their low budget indie zombie comedy stylings together. I will admit up front, I do like when low budget horror does comedy for the most part. I don't like when a horror film goes from giving nods to the movies that influenced it and just settles for shooting some of the same scenes. Now, mind you that didn't happen a lot, but there are two scenes in particular that seemed to come right from 28 Days Later. Still, that's not really the reason why I didn't much care for this film. As I mentioned before I do like lower budget horror comedies because when the comedy is on point, they sometimes end up a lot funnier than actual comedies. Although, in a risk-reward way, when the comedy is off, the movie tanks fast. Last of The Living came off that way for me. First, it jumped from serious to comedy and kind of see-sawed that way throughout the run time. Which is fine if both the drama and comedy work, I think the drama did fine, but the comedy didn't work at all for me. That left me with some okay zombie drama, followed by failed jokes. Like the Fozzy Bear of zomedies. It also didn't help that most of the characters weren't the most likable and the last third of the movie is very much what you'd expect from every zombie film. Oh, except for the plane part, I liked that at least. Last of The Living, just didn't take off for me. Unlikable characters, comedy that was dead on arrival, and a story that could have been any zombie film, just handcuff this low budget comedy. It's a skip for me. See more 11/13/2014 The script is actually pretty good, and so is the acting, but the film visually looks very cheap, and the score doesn't fit lots of the time, plus the lack of gore takes the fun out of the kill scenes. 32/100 See more 10/15/2013 New Zealand slackers vs Zombies (DVD) See more 09/11/2013 A terrible excuse of a zombie film, has its moments but moments are not a whole film See more Read all reviews
