See more Stephanie H @Smheddy 2 days ago I was privileged enough to go to the Dallas premiere of this movie. I thought the movie was so cute! Even my 15 year-old son enjoyed it thoroughly. It had laugh out loud moments and tender sweet moments as well. Malcolm McDowell and James Paxton are fabulous. Let’s not forget the women! Bernadette peters Mary Steenburg, and Laura were also awesome additions to the film. I recommend this film to not only teachers, but students, families, and friends! See more Lloyd A. After a career built on villains, he plays a prissy, book-loving schoolteacher stuck in the wrong century, and he's terrific at it. Funny, a little sad, and he never once phones it in. He's 83 and this might be one of the best things he's done in years. James Paxton is the surprise. His father was supposed to play the outlaw decades ago, and James makes the part his own. The two of them together are the whole reason the movie works. Nobody will mistake this for a big-budget Western. It isn't, and it shows. But the story is good, it has heart, and the acting from McDowell and Paxton more than makes up for what the money couldn't buy. Bernadette Peters and Mary Steenburgen are welcome whenever they show up. Small movie but with a big performance. Worth your time. The best manage it in ways that are subtle enough to be invisible, or barring that, in ways that you don't mind. Last Train with its sweet romp through the Wild West, manages to combine the fish out of water story (that Westerns are charmingly suited to) with a heartfelt love letter to books, education, and the greatness of reading.
