Blake- N @PBSAniDom May 8 Leprechaun: Origins is one of the most frustrating horror reboots I’ve sat through in a long time. It completely misses the weird charm and fun that made the older films memorable, replacing it with a dull and lifeless experience that barely feels connected to the franchise at all. The movie takes itself way too seriously, and the result is a horror film that feels more generic than entertaining. The pacing drags, the characters are forgettable, and the atmosphere feels empty instead of creepy. Even the scares feel weak and repetitive. What makes it worse is how little personality the film has. The original series was ridiculous, but at least it embraced its insanity. This one strips away everything unique and leaves behind something painfully bland. Overall, this is pure dog water as a reboot and as a horror movie in general. It’s frustrating, boring, and almost completely lacking in fun. I’d rate it a 0/10. See more Justin T @RT08580778 Nov 24 Much as there is a noticeable improvement to the cinematography and grading as well as the sound design being more modern and bombastic it is severely unwatchable due to the one dimensional boring characters and terrible writing. The previous film did a better job of telling an origin story. After the unimaginative generic setup it gets very slow and boring. It reminded me of Carnivore: Werewolf of London (2017) with people stuck in a cabin with something ferocious trying to get them. Also Until Dawn (2015) (the game not the movie) but far less interesting or intelligent. It has a totally different vibe to the previous films, no lightheartedness whatsoever. It’s about as creatively generic and forgettable as you could possibly get but technically it’s not badly made. They try to hide the look of the leprechaun and what you do see of it looks terrible. A bit like the monsters from The Descent (2005) but for no reason. All these films are standalone and almost totally unrelated but this is even further from the first compared to the other sequels. It really has nothing to do with the leprechaun, no magic, almost no mythology, just a generic monster killing generic teenagers. Also 12 minutes of credits? Seriously? Totally got away from the other movies in the franchise and there is no comedy in this which make the other films fun to watch. This movie is horrible.
