Marco L @decatur555 Jun 28, 2026 This one catches your eye first because of where it comes from: we don't get many commercial Russian action and comic-book films in the West, and this one has budget and a clear wish to compete as a blockbuster. Igor is an unorthodox Saint Petersburg cop facing a masked figure who violently punishes the rich and powerful in the name of justice. The comparison with V for Vendetta comes almost by itself, though here the politics go less far and the comic-book entertainment goes further. The best part is the polish: the city is a great setting, the effects are good and the action has energy. It also works as entertainment, with chases, light humor and a theatrical villain. The problem is that much of it feels familiar, echoing Batman, Marvel and The Purge, and it never digs into what it raises about power and inequality. Not a marvel, but a curious, entertaining and more solid blockbuster than expected. It was so much fun to watch and had an incredible story, and I can easily say the Plague Doctor is one of the best villains I've seen in a movie. I definitely recommend it for action fans! The twist in the movie is really good and is reminiscent in its presentation style of what Marvel did with Venom in the Spider-Man movie. But overall, this is a movie that is at a very reasonable level compared to the movies in its category, it is not perfect but it is satisfying and very exciting.
