Critics Consensus

Anne Hathaway acquits herself well as a believable pop star in Mother Mary, a modish psychodrama that can be frustratingly obtuse but has style to spare.

Mother Mary is an impressively labyrinthine sojourn into creation, art, music, and interpersonal connection that eschew gender, sexuality, and societal norms to become something else entirely. Something new. Something mythic. Go to Full Review

arteach L 3h I felt this would’ve been a better play than a film. The story did not resonate with me. There was nothing that I could identify with. The performances were great, the fashion and music was outstanding, but the story was just lacking. I felt like the film didn’t know what it was part musical, part supernatural haunting, part intimate theatre, and almost performance art. I kept hoping it was an allegory, but even that didn’t happen. I felt pretty let down. See more Sav T @RT66827437 10h Truth be told I'd give this a 4 or 4.5, but I'm going all in to bring up the average. A lot of the low ratings I'm seeing are from the smooth-brained and the boring. This film was great. Original and evocative, stunning performances, breathtaking visual sequences, conceptually enthralling, and erotic in such a clever and hearwrenching way. Michaela Coel and Anne Hathaway were a mesmerizing duo to watch, I was hooked on their dynamic! See more Jean Carlo 15h Honestly I dont know what was going on the whole time. However, 10/10 music.
