Heather, an outcast teenage goalie, longs to play on the hockey team of her small northern town. She meets and falls in love with newcomer Jonny, an alluring but tormented figure skater. The girls' relationship blossoms despite Heather's struggles with her alcoholic mother, her hidden sexual orientation, and a familial curse that transforms her into a feral wolf under the full moon. Heather and Jonny's secret tryst soon clashes against the conformity of their small community, exposing dangerous truths and igniting a passionate, violent night of personal transformation.

Inside the thin shell of a typical werewolf flick can be found the makings of a deeply moving romance and coming-of-age story. Menuez brings so much emotion and power behind the character of Heather and drives the film.

I mean I guess? The style is cool but other than that the plot is kind of all over the place. The whole werewolf thing wasn't even actually relevant to the story at all. I absolutely wouldn't classify this as a horror film, far far far from it.

A moody, evocative and engrossing film. A reflection of the awkwardness of feeling different living in a small rural town, and struggling against the adversity of trying to be one's self. Beautiful visuals, luscious sound design and music. A highly enjoyable watch.

My Animal is queer romantic horror movie that both metaphorically and literally tells the struggles of Queer young people living in conservative small towns through the figure of the werewolf. I found the movie to be quite enjoyable especially as a Lesbian, but it did not show as much shapeshifting as I would like.
