That’s the whole concept and Barker’s insight. If you want to make someone love you above all else... the only way to accomplish this is to dehumanize them, to strip away everything about them that made them someone you wanted to be with.

The movie feels organic. Even though it’s an old story, the Monkey’s Paw story, it feels fresh and new. These actors do a fantastic job. It’s timed just right. It doesn’t rely on cheesy jump scares.

What could easily serve as a harsh and scathing critique of the aforementioned misogynistic behaviors ends up doing a complete 180-degree turn to embrace the "crazy girlfriend" trope in a way that ultimately backfires.

Brilliant. Fantastic acting cements a solid idea. In several ways, this is a modern evolution of Possession, and wears the homages on its sleeve. It's not a surprise this exploded in popularity among crowds wanting original substance and impact instead of repetitive drivel.
