Set in the late 1980s, Ocean Boy is told through the eyes of a 13-year-old boy, Rockit. As he grapples to understand why his Mum's not coming home, Rockit embarks on a magical holiday with his father, Bosch, only to discover they're actually running from the law. Rockit finds a soulmate and then teenage love with Ash Ash, but it's the ocean that gives him the security and calm he yearns from his parents. Ultimately Rockit is a boy held by nature, a young man who wins our hearts and respect as his story unfolds. Filmed at iconic Byron Bay, against the canvas of Australia's famous east coast surf beaches and rain forests, Ocean Boy is a raw and unapologetic exploration of unconscious parenting and the deeper themes of love and relationships.

Luke Hemsworth’s range is a revelation. This is exactly the type of film that allows him to showcase those talents. Go to Full Review

Luke Hemsworth plays Bosch, the father. He does a superb job of making this man seem real -- so much so I wish he did more roles like this. Go to Full Review

I thought I could no longer be surprised by this film’s cheesiness. I was wrong. Go to Full Review

For those yearning for that next coming-of-age gem, you might have to go elsewhere because Ocean Boy might have strayed out too far from land. Go to Full Review

Some agreeable actors, lovely locales and nifty surfing footage aren’t enough to save this meandering Australian coming-of-age tale. Go to Full Review

King is also shown to be more than capable in a story which, like his character, wants to be mature but doesn’t quite get there. Go to Full Review

See more Alexander F @RT98785206 12/27/2023 Some parts of the plot were pretty shallow. The mother's character was not well developed at all. There were some really wholesome moments between Bosch and Rockit though. Also some stunning visuals and a great soundtrack. See more A.L.Jude P @judebd 07/29/2023 Beautiful movie with a attuning story. See more Andrew S @RT73747413 02/23/2023 Enjoyable movie with great scenery. A movie that was not predictable with a great story. Well done See more Pete @RT08958073 02/20/2023 Based on true events of the childhood of Tyler Atkins growing up on the East Coast of Australia. With unstable parent structure Rockit is forced to live a harsh and unconventional life growing up in a single parent relationship. Rockits father, a drug growing dealer, is forced to be on the run after police find his marijuana crop fighting a bush fire. The movie has been hit harshly by Australian media critics but I found this movie to be totally opposite to their archaic views. For a movie that has been based on true life events, this is an awesome watch. See more SteveInAdelaide @RT77101224 08/25/2022 BOSCH & ROCKIT is an exciting summer movie starring a young father, Bosch (Luke Hemsworth) on the run from the law. In tow is his son, Rockit (Rasmus King), who believes he is on a magical holiday. The two bond as they travel along the Australian coast, evading capture by the police. The acting by the two leads is excellent, the complex relationship between father and son is believable and the dialogue is sharp. Rasmus King is particularly charming as Rockit. King also brings his surfing skills to the film with some stunning surfing cinematography by Ben Nott. The scenery along the Australian coast is beautiful, and the film's photography does it justice. The film's ending is unexpected and satisfying. Overall, BOSCH & ROCKIT is a well-made film that is sure to entertain audiences of all ages. It is exciting, funny, and heart-warming, with a touch of magic thrown in for good measure. I highly recommend it. See more Read all reviews
