"Outcome" is a dark comedy that centers on Reef Hawk (Keanu Reeves), a beloved Hollywood star who must dive into the depths of his hidden demons after he is extorted with a mysterious video that's sure to shatter his image and end his career. With the support of his lifelong besties Kyle (Cameron Diaz) and Xander (Matt Bomer), along with his crisis lawyer Ira (Jonah Hill), Reef embarks on a soul-searching journey to make amends with anyone he could have possibly wronged in hopes of identifying the blackmailer. Co-writer and director Hill brings a unique lens to Reef's wild but spiritually cleansing, nostalgic and eye-opening trip down memory lane, where confronting his past might be the only way to rescue his future.

Critics Consensus

Outcome collapses under its own ambitions, playing as a garish, tonally erratic and heavy-handed satire that fumbles its intriguing ideas about stardom in an overlong and largely unfunny jumble of wasted talent.

With Hill as Reef’s abrasive lawyer, the film veers between crude and cuddly. Watch it for Reeves’ heartfelt reaction shots and Martin Scorsese’s small but perfectly played role. Go to Full Review

It’s hard to imagine this mumbling, shambling man holding multiplex masses in his thrall. As such, he’s a poignant void, but a void nonetheless, and even at a slim 84 minutes, Hill’s doleful film can’t keep us interested in his plight. Go to Full Review

Never believable. There's no emotional weight. Unconvincing and far-fetched. Go to Full Review

Maybe Jonah Hill is sorry for everything that he’s done. Maybe Outcome is the only way he knows how to express his apologies. Go to Full Review

Outcome is a film that starts and finishes at nearly the same place, with an 80 minute runtime - not enough encourages one to go through this turbulent experience within the bounds of Hollywood. Go to Full Review

Andy S @TheRuralJuror75 Jul 2 Not sure why this is getting killed in the comments. This turned out to be a weird dark comedy that turned out sweet in the end. Great cast and handled a complex topic in a simple way. Making up for your past isn’t easy but it’s not impossible. I liked this movie! See more David A @Vergazo Jun 30 As dull as a plastic spoon. It's about this guy, he's in a crappy mood, and then his agent?... or whoever that guy is, he talks for over an hour. And then his friends try to cheer him up in a half assed kinda way. And then... I'm not sure what else. More dull stuff. and then that's it, that's pretty much it. Excruciating waste of time. Easily the worst movie of the year. See more Rin P @RT99218701 Jun 28 The blooper with Drew in the credits was the best part of this movie. Amazing actors, garbage script and plot. Jonah Hill needs to go back into the hole he was placed in a few years ago after being outed as a creeper. Also what’s up with his teeth in this movie? They look like dentures! I know Hollywood is all fake and about veneers but this was next level bad. Not sure if Hill was trying to lean into the character but it just made skin crawl more than it already was seeing him on screen again. I’d be embarrassed if I was any of the actors in this movie. See more Alfredo S @alsuarez Jun 27 La idea base no es mala pero la ejecución falla en caer en clichés que no están bien ejecutados y tiene una fotografía que es curiosa pero no pega con el tema de la película. See more Bill P @Panjo Jun 27 Very entertaining. Keanu is great. Excellent cast. Good story. Limited plot holes. I liked the ending. Jonah Hill is over the top, but who cares. He’s always over the top. He should keep directing. Good film. I don’t get all the hate. See more Isaac M @RT24577646 Jun 26 I’m not sure where all the hate for Outcome is coming from. It’s a pleasant, laugh on the inside film that handles a pretty loaded subject (celebrity, cancel culture, and crossing the line) with more nuance than expected. I also appreciated its perspective on child actors and Keanu Reeves gives the whole thing some grounding in reality. It may not be one for the ages, but it’s leagues above a lot of straight-to-streaming comedies. It should be no lower than 70% here in my opinion, and that makes me a little suspicious of why it's being slammed so hard. See more Read all reviews
