former C @RT73889332 May 26 A poor excuse of a film with the name of Padre Pio as a lure for the unsuspecting viewer to watch what turns out to be an homage to Socialism. I was tempted to write a paean to Socialism, but this dreary item is too dark with its loathing of life to be called joyful. The muzak that runs through its entirety was like a hornet continuously trying to land on one’s person. One suspects the perpetrators of this nightmare film may have been infected by Satan himself. One gets disconnected snippets of Padre Pio with nothing leading one to understand what they were about unless one had foreknowledge of his life, but these are only brief glances to justify the name of the movie. There is no historical background about what was happening in Italy to give context, no cultural context, so the actors come across as zombies in black, not a single redeeming joy in their lives, and where is their connection to Pio? A genuine expository Padre Pio movie that is actually about him has yet to be made. See more Bob M @BobbyGoBoom Apr 20 I am a Catholic and I went into this with some apprehension considering the reviews. Totally unfounded and I strongly suspect reviews being disingenuous. The movie was beautiful and the depiction of Padre Pio was absolutely powerful and to my knowledge extremely accurate. The visions, the demonic attacks, the bilocation, the stigmata, the reading of souls, etc, etc. part of the movie depicts the rising communist movement and it does so tastefully without being cartoonish. The shots are beautifully artistic and done really well. Bravo. See more James S @RT85214260 Oct 26 Honestly as a Christian and a film maker of 10 years I completely feel like this movie failed itself, the story was odd and disconnect, the mystery behind Pio was never revealed nor the link between his church and the other story going on with socialism, terrible writing and communication of a story , and shaking a camera doesnt make your movie grittier or more real just stop, terrible.
