What to Know

Critics Consensus

Finding a fresh angle on one of the most dramatized days in military history, Pressure is a brainy war film that derives most of its thrills from Andrew Scott's simmering performance.

Brendan Fraser and Andrew Scott are just as fierce as the storms in Pressure, an intense D-Day drama that sharply captures a pivotal, life-stakes moment in history.

Fraser’s Eisenhower is physically imposing and stubborn too... But he’s frankly less interesting than Scott’s multifaceted Stagg, a character and performance that elevates an otherwise efficient, well-made war movie into something more intriguing. Go to Full Review

For all the prior cinematic depictions of storming bunkers and camaraderie under fire, Pressure offers us the quiet heroism of rational restraint in the figure of James Stagg, who weathered his inner storms and bore the courage to be disliked. Go to Full Review

The mushy score, absurdly pompous speeches, and Victorian staginess harmonize with Mr. Fraser’s conception of his role as the emoter in chief. Go to Full Review

As it commonly reported, you could cut the tension with a knife, but this stage-based film from director Anthony Maras ("Hotel Mumbai") and David Haig looks and feels real. Consistently fabulous work from a first-class ensemble never hurts, either. Go to Full Review

This straightforward, true-life period melodrama derives as much meteorological suspense as possible while it details a fascinating behind-the-scenes battle that had nothing to do with Nazis. Go to Full Review

Scott S 31m Honestly one of the best films I have seen in the last few years, and now one of my all time favorite WWII films and I have seen many. The acting was superb. Andrew Scott nailed it throughout and I so incredibly impressed with Brendan Fraser as Eisenhower. I was smiling by the portrayal of Montgomery by Damian Lewis (Captain Winters - Band of Brothers). Kerry Condon and Chris Messina also provided very strong performances. Can’t wait to add this special film to my collection. Thanks to everyone for making such a heartfelt and important film about D-Day and the timing of the invasion. See more Carey 2h Loved it. An interesting piece of history that very few know about. While not a long movie, it was engaging, suspenseful at times and showed the complexity of war. I loved it and walked away learning more about WW2. See more Ross 2h "We had better meteorologists than the Germans" - great movie that shows a cool side of D-Day See more Frank 3h Frazer, Condon, Lewis and Messina are incredible. But, Andrew Scott is a magician. He has the power to draw you in and make the viewer also feel the PRESSURE. At one point I could feel my heart beating heavily in my chest. As a side note, the photograph (cinematography) was beautiful and at times breathtaking.
