Science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. At 2½ hours plus, it also has its longueurs but there are some spectacularly beautiful moments and Gosling makes an engaging companion who makes something poignant as well as funny out of Grace’s unwelcome elevation to hero status.

With what comes across as three huge narrative sections that differ rewardingly from each other, and an ending that ties everything neatly together, the storytelling pace of Project Hail Mary is flawless. It’s a perfect balance.

A wonderful movie! I’m glad I didn’t let its length put me off. Sure, I needed a potty break 1:45 in, but luckily I didn’t miss much. I laughed, I cried, and left the theater feeling so much better than when I went in. What more could I ask for?

Visually stunning, incredible acting by Ryan Gosling, and a compelling plot that keeps you guessing. Humorous dialog and deep, loveable characters that you just can’t help but root for. Beautiful themes regarding bravery, companionship, and identity. Pretty loyal adaptation, all things considered, most things that were cut or changed from the book didn’t bother me too bad. Amazing movie, saw it in theaters twice. Definitely one of my favs.
