Avildsen is prone to luxuriating in his own Americana -- the midsection is somewhat baggy -- and you sometimes sense the writing tiptoeing around the wrestling scene’s less salubrious aspects. The stronger stretches, though, display ample pluck and moxie.

Very good movie. Lead performance was excellent. Showed a sport I wasn't familiar with, especially which was not made readily available to women at that time. Good acting from the lead woman wrestler & the other woman wrestlers, some who appeared to be actual wrestlers. I learned a lot about how women were physically able to compete, even if smaller than their Mail counterparts.
