Darcy (Dev Patel) and Daphne (Rosy McEwen) Davenport are freshly decamped from London and taking up residence in an isolated cottage deep in the Welsh countryside in search of creative renewal and acoustic inspiration. When the couple set about exploring their new environs, recording instruments in tow, Darcy stumbles upon a "faerie circle" that emits a strange, unidentifiable frequency; this odd discovery is followed closely by the appearance of an otherworldly child (Jade Croot) who claims to live nearby and is eager to befriend the Davenports. Soon the child becomes a fixture in their household, alternately ingratiating himself and raising suspicions, and exposing unacknowledged rifts and unexamined secrets that threaten to wreak psychological and spiritual havoc in the lives of his makeshift adoptive parents.

I adored this movie, it captures the traditions of folklore and classic murder ballads/fairytales (before they were made palatable for children) then tells its own story of trauma and reconciliation. Absolutely a must-see for anyone who enjoys folk horror, I'd love to see a screening out in the woods. Fantastic acting, atmosphere and beautifully shot. I haven't been able to stop telling friends about it.

The cinematography is absolutely stunning. Every scene feels so intentional and beautiful, even when the story itself is making you deeply uncomfortable. It’s psychological horror in the best way possible. I spent almost the entire movie with this knot in my throat, feeling tense and anxious. At the same time, watching it was strangely satisfying. I don’t even know if "satisfying" is the right word in English, but the film has such a natural flow and the actors make everything feel very real and grounded. Nothing feels exaggerated. It slowly makes you feel that something is wrong until you start to feel desperate.
