What to Know

Critics Consensus

Less a course correction than a compounding of everything that tangled up its predecessor, The Scargiver is an uninvolving space opera full of flat notes.

Audience Says

Rebel Moon: Part Two - The Scargiver is just as visually stylish as other Zack Snyder epics, which helps make up for the flat story and thinly written characters.

It is hard to explain how much I do not give a flying fruit cake rolled up in a donut about any of these characters. Go to Full Review

As a playground for Snyder’s favorite bits of speed-ramping, shallow-focusing and pulp thievery, it’s harmless, sometimes pleasingly weird fun. Go to Full Review

This space opera sequel doesn’t quite capture the worldbuilding magic of its predecessor. Go to Full Review

With nearly identical plot points and retelling of backstories we already know or could imagine well enough from the first one, ultimately the whole Rebel Moon saga feels like a copy of the sci-fi series everyone seems to look up to: Star Wars Go to Full Review

Unless you love every, and I mean every, movie that Snyder has ever created, Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver will be an exercise in patience and frustration. The film could make a great 15-minute sizzle reel, but that’s where the entertainment ends. Go to Full Review

Rebel Moon Part Two essentially puts all work with its characters and ideas back in the box for an extravaganza that just. Keeps. Going. Go to Full Review

Chris C @chrisc5 Sep 22, 2026 Part 1 had an interesting beginning before it descended into unintended hilarity and dumb violence. Part 2 never attempts to move away from the landing spot of Part 1. It's so filled with pathos that I felt like playing the violin for the full 2 hours. It's Dumb & Dumber in space - a mighty empire is dependent on crop harvest from 1 small village on 1 rocky desert-like planet. It seems the only technology they possess are spaceships and weapons. Apparently in all other ways they are like cavemen. I don't remember laughing so hard at scenes that were meant to make you stand up and wave a flag in a very, very long time. The movie is clearly intended as militaristic propaganda; it should be shown at army recruitment centers all over the world. It aims to be "Seven Samurai" in space. A bad spoof - maybe. See more Callum W @RT21359001 Sep 21, 2026 I play a-lot of Rimworld and this movie is exactly what I imagine my colonists are doing in the game. As a movie it's simply too much to captivate into such a short timescale to fully appreciate what is trying to be perceived. I understand the vision of what this could be... and it nearly got there... and if this was adapted for TV? I could see it being up there with some cult classics. However It's major downfall is that every piece of lore was quite obviously borrowed from other successful sci-fi series and left to interpretation which made both movies look and feel relatable but hollow and unoriginal. If it wasn't for the amazing action scenes which fulfil my "Rimworld fantasy" and the great acting from Ed Skrein- I could not recommend this movie. I recommend this to DnD and Sc-Fi lovers, as they might appreciate the cocktail of scripts and niche "Easter Egg" like references where others can't. To Zack Snyder, The action is great but no-one can sympathise to your tragic characters. See more diogo13 T @Tua_mera Jul 16, 2026 Although more focused than its predecessor, the film suffers from the tiresome overuse of slow motion and cheesy dialogue. The action is visually stylized, but devoid of emotional weight and features shallow characters. See more Chris S @Janomi Jun 29, 2026 Rebel Moon – Part Two delivers much of the large-scale action the first film promised. Zack Snyder stages several impressive battles, and the visual effects, creature design, costumes, and cinematography continue to give the series an epic sense of scale. Sofia Boutella also gets more opportunities to deepen Kora's character, making her motivations and sacrifices more emotionally engaging than they were in the first film. The biggest issue is that, even after two movies, much of the supporting team remains underdeveloped. As a result, several emotional moments don't land as powerfully as they should. The story also leans heavily on familiar genre conventions, and Snyder's constant use of slow motion eventually loses some of its impact. While The Scargiver is more entertaining than its predecessor, it still favors spectacle over character development and memorable storytelling. See more Ronald T @RT47974441 Jun 25, 2026 Congrats Zack, I couldn't believe you could've made a more worse movie than Rebel Moon 1. See more Zachary J. @RT26070648 May 26, 2026 Better execution than the first one, but saving a character that should be dead and making the whole first movie pointless was quite a choice See more Read all reviews
