GREG W @RT32452484 Sep 6, 2026 This very mediocre air war film from the Korean War era attempts two things: 1.) to show exciting air combat between jets and bombers, and 2.) to show the emotional toll this takes on the wives of the pilots. It fails to accomplish either. The air action consists of poorly edited actual combat footage from WW II, patched together with contemporary shots of Sabre jets and other planes taking off. The takeoff footage is the best part of the air sequences. The stories of the jet pilot's wives are so anti-feminist they would be laughable if the film didn't take it so seriously. The wives are uniformly attractive wearing tight-fitting clothing over their 1950s figures, with lipstick that looks like dark shoe polish in this garish black and white print of the film. Coleen Gray is insufferable as the reporter who thoughtlessly uses the other women's feelings to write her stories. Robert Stack gives a uniformly wooden performance. Drop tanks that randomly appear and disappear. MIGs that suddenly have propellers. not enough good footage of the jets to be worth the bad continuity and plodding plot. Its an awesome aircraft and an awesome movie showing the life of a jet pilot in the Korean war. Home based out of Japan a squadron and there families are high lighted in this movie, After a mission some return some don't. If your a fan of classic aircraft this movie shows actual footage of mass take offs, landings and fly byes. And excellent war movie and aircraft lovers. 4 stars See more Read all reviews
