Defying the very notion of good taste, Scary Movie out-parodies the pop culture parodies with a no-holds barred assault on the most popular images and talked-about moments from recent films, television and commercials. The film boldly fires barbs at the classic scenes from Scream, The Sixth Sense, The Matrix, I Know What You Did Last Summer and The Blair Witch Project, then goes on to mock a whole myriad of teen movie clichés, no matter the genre.

These gags are hardly the height of inspiration, but it could be that people laugh at them because they're not as pathetic as a character having a penis jabbed through his head like an ice pick. Go to Full Review

The Wayans brothers just want to make us laugh... And for the first 20 minutes, they do. After that the gag-rate plummets, and it's a long haul to the credits. Go to Full Review

While Scary Movie doesn’t work as a film (for me), it does a couple of cool things that make me get why people keep returning to it. Go to Full Review

Scary Movie’s jokes can be hit, miss, or downright offensive; but enough of them land to make for an enjoyable watch. The movie shines brightest with the jokes that most resemble the absurdism of spoofs like Airplane and The Naked Gun. Go to Full Review

Diego P @Sakuta01003 2d It's pure 2000s comedy, and the final scene is a fantastic double reference. Personally, I always thought the killer had to be the cop in the Scream movies. See more xav0293 T @RT38343751 6d Scary Movie (2000) succeeds because it understands the horror films it parodies. Directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, the film borrows heavily from Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, exaggerating their familiar characters, predictable plots, and dramatic tension until they become absurd. Rather than simply mocking horror, the film exposes how formulaic the genre had become by the late 1990s. Anna Faris gives the strongest performance as Cindy Campbell, balancing sincerity and comedy in a way that keeps the film engaging even when the jokes become ridiculous. The fast pacing ensures that weak jokes are quickly replaced by stronger ones, creating a consistently entertaining experience. Although some humour has aged poorly and relies on stereotypes or shock value, the film remains an effective satire. Its self awareness, energetic performances, and clever use of genre conventions make it one of the most influential parody films ever made. It still stands above many later spoof films.
