Mary Portman is a widowed child psychologist who lives in isolation in rural Maine. The horrific car accident that killed her husband also left her 18-year-old stepson Stephen in a bedridden, catatonic state, leaving him completely dependent on her. When one of Portman's young patients vanishes without a trace, she becomes convinced that the boy's ghost is now in the house as a dangerous ice storm starts to wreak havoc outside.

This movie is bad. It's hilariously bad. The horror elements are wasted frivolously on silly jump scares including raccoons, dramatic grabbing of body parts, and every other horror trope in the book.

The son's actions were evil for no reason, and the mother's actions didn't make much sense either.

The twist was way too obvious and ineffective. The constant waking from night terrors sequences became redundant. It had some minorly entertaining suspense in the third act. All the main actors including Watts, Platt and Heaton were good, but it couldn't save much of the film.

This was a very poorly written plot. The story line was dull and the ending was quite honestly just terrible. Talk about being an unfit mother. Oliver Platt was the only actor worth watching.
