I got bored with it and turned it off See more devin r Nov 23 Best of the Sinbad movies by Harryhausen, principally because it seems slightly more mature, or modern, and, captures more a less stereotyped storybook view, but still being fantasy (aka: the movie plays in fact much like a dungeons and dragons campaign, esp. 2nd edition., which had arabian packs, or a pulp arabian knights fantasy comic.) Schneer and Harryhausen learned as they went, though perhaps the earlier Jason is my favorite. I like the including of greek philosophers, antediluvian civilizations myths and arabian magic all mixed. It calls to mind how all these ideas were mixed in the pre modern world and all the fun it has. Premodern magical robots or golems and female antagonist a plus. A giant walrus is pure fun. The formula here has achieved a nice balance between forceful old fashioned bombastic and the more modern. Great fun for kids, teens and the adult still young at heart. Check your disbelief at the door and go into D&D mode. The idea the quest is to cure the Caliph who is now a baboon adds to this and is a nice deviation from the usual types of quests or hero tales: ie hero has to rescue babe and foil evil enemy. However, the beautiful women are far from absent here (Power and Seymour). Melanthius the greek philosopher, with a strangely beautiful nevertheless blonde daughter, is great and is played by another Dr. Who (Troughton,) who was also in Jason as Phineas, most memorably, and also was a cockney low life in the first episode of Inspector Morse, among other things. See more David W @Sternhammer 08/07/2023 An inexplicably, unjustly and personally irritatingly maligned classic. The third installment of what I consider to be the true Sinbad trilogy (Seventh. Golden and this) and a very worthy, in my eyes, movie in its own right. In Wayne, the new Sinbad actor was again very well cast and Patrick Troughton as Melanthius was very memorable. There were wonderful and imaginative Harryhausen special effects and a stirring musical score. Despite the elapsed time gap the script was beautifully in sync with the feel of the previous movies and their lore. If I absolutely had to rank them in preference then it's probably my third favourite of the true Sinbad movies, that said its still a hugely worthy addition to what I consider to be the greatest trilogy of classic adventure fantasy movies ever made. I absolutely adore the classic Sinbad trilogy and consider them, along with Jason and the Argonauts and latterly their spiritual successor in Clash of the Titans (1981), to be the pinnacle of classic fantasy adventure movies. They were largely responsible for instilling my lifelong interest in and love of the fantasy genre and for that I am forever grateful to them. See more jordan m 02/10/2022 I actually thought the leading man in this one was better than in either of the prior two, mostly because he looked much more like a pirate with his tan and the beard. Apparently real critics thought he wasn't very charismatic, but that played second fiddle to him looking the part for me. They seemed to change their format a little bit here in that there was stop-motion in the majority of the scenes without as much time wasted in between, but (perhaps as a result, or perhaps because of diminishing returns) the stop-motion and other effects were a lot less impressive this time around.
