It is a little scattergun in its approach, and the ontology may be a bit much for kids, but even they will relate to its message about appreciating life’s smaller pleasures, which this year feels like a good one.

I unfortunately found that numerous critics said of this film that the messages and themes are not as accessible to kids. That's disappointing to me. As a 14 year old, I've found that adults have underestimated my maturity and intelligence throughout my entire life. Unless I am unusual in this way, here is yet another example of adults underestimating the perceptive power of kids. I understand that I am old enough to be considered a young adult rather than a child, I first watched this movie when I was 7. After seeing it, I was very emotional. Nothing went over my head (as far as the messages of the film are concerned, and it hit me hard, because you don't think about things like the value of living for the moment as a kid on your own. It remains my favourite movie, and the critique that it is inaccessible to younger kids is a condescending assumption.

A beautiful film with very mature existential concepts and a fantastic jazz soundtrack. Although it loses its way a bit in the middle by using a conventional and childish body-swap narrative formula, the final message and visuals guarantee a high-level experience.
