The 8th Night is not a particularly weird movie, although there's definite menace in the atmosphere. Go to Full Review

While The 8th Night offers some occasionally arresting visuals ... Kim conjures up little atmosphere for what purports to be a supernatural chiller. Go to Full Review

Filled with stylistically chilling imagery, The 8th Night is a somewhat convoluted supernatural horror movie, but the suspenseful and surprising twists can make up for the film's messy final showdown scene. Go to Full Review

A film with the style, the startles and the sight to certify deeper currents, even when burdened by hyper-caffeinated pacing and average English subtitling. Go to Full Review

Marco L @decatur555 4 days ago A very disappointing Korean supernatural thriller that promised much more than it delivered. On paper it had interesting ingredients: possession, monks, relics, an ancient spirit, prophecy and a dark ritual atmosphere. But the story felt confusing, heavy and almost incoherent, full of mythology that is explained in a tangled and unemotional way. It tries to be a slow-burn horror film, but the fire is so low that it almost goes out. For too long, nothing truly gripping happens, and I was more aware of the remaining runtime than of the danger. It is not scary either: a few unsettling smiles or possession moments wake it up slightly, but the black-smoke digital effects feel cheap and break the mood. The characters are flat, the police subplot adds little, and the whole thing feels overlong and empty. There are some ritual touches, music and shots worth rescuing, but not enough. A solemn, slow and forgettable mess. See more Rosie T. @RT44484436 Jun 17, 2026 Interesting plot, but that’s all it was. You should consider yourself lucky that none of your personal contact information is publicly available. You have contributed greatly to the decline of Korean cinema. The film you made is an absolute mess—garbage, incoherent, shallow, and completely disjointed. Amateur directors like you keep making films just to make money, forgetting that you’re taking something incredibly valuable from people: their time. I sincerely hope that neither you nor your team at Gom Pictures ever achieve any success. I genuinely feel sorry for anyone who has watched, or is about to watch, the trash produced by you and Gom Pictures. You are a profound disappointment, Kim Tae-hyoung. It had a complex array of character motivations that kept the film interesting even though it was a bit slow at times. The ending is great. It's the personalities that carry the movie. There is an interesting lore and core story. Some of the special effects near the end were a bit unimaginative. It has beautiful cinematography and has excellent sound design. If you fail to engage with the characters then I could see that the film would be boring. This almost feels like a new genre, the spaghetti horror, as it shares similarities with spaghetti western films. Overall I enjoyed it but apart from a handful of moments it's pretty forgettable.
