What to Know

Critics Consensus

Concocted with all the restraint of a mad scientist's experiment, THE BRIDE! lurches in so many different creative directions that the overall effect is both sloppy and inspired.

Audience Says

THE BRIDE! unapologetically walks down the bloody aisle with style and verve, sparking mixed reactions -- some question its unity, while many more wholeheartedly say “I do” without a prenup.

The Bride! is baggy, baffling, and erratically conceived, yet even as I bemoaned its inadequacies, I was also fascinated by them and by Gyllenhaal’s steadfast commitment to the concept, her choices clearly born of the desire to experiment. Go to Full Review

The Bride! is a film in constant motion with no direction. Go to Full Review

Gyllenhaal zips between tones and styles with a ferocious abandon. Even when her film is utterly befuddling, it’s a joy to behold. Go to Full Review

The new gothic romance centering on and reimagining Frankenstein’s bride is visually stunning, fearlessly kinetic and inventive, and worth celebrating. Go to Full Review

I guess it all just boils down to simply this: The Bride isn’t a good movie by any stretch, but it’s strangely one I enjoyed more than it deserves, and I don’t regret watching it. It’s a vibe, and you should never apologize for what you vibe with. Go to Full Review

It's horribly messy, but it's also ambitious as all get-out and tremendously fun. Go to Full Review

Joshua 21h I want to try to understand what Gyllenhaal was trying to do with this movie. I feel like it could’ve been a masterpiece but it was really all over the place. I’m a big fan of her and her brother which was why I was excited to see it since I’m not a big fan of horror movies in general which this really isn’t a horror movie. The good things were the visuals that filled the screen and the performances of the actors were fantastic but all in all it couldn’t save the movie. See more reinaldo n 1d This movie was great. The characters, the acting, the storyline, everything was absolutely wonderful. Really enjoyed this movie. See more Grace 1d Storyline was very difficult to follow. Still entertaining, just very confusing and not the best plot. See more Stephanie 2d Honestly? You're going to need to go into this one not expecting anything. It's very artsy - the cinematography is brilliant with many nods to classic filmmaking. If you're looking for it to look like every other movie, you will be disappointed. This movie fits under the film-noir genre. See more Asa Bland 2d Did not like how the entire movie was completely boring. Nothing about it was good See more Molly 2d I thought it was a very thought-provoking, surprisingly intimate and important movie to see and be seen! See more Read all reviews
