After the early violence, the movie settles into a kind of pondwater stasis. It’s as if Mr. Sarnoski couldn’t devise any dialogue to suggest the transformation he wants us to believe is under way and settles for a series of dramatically inert scenes.

Very violent, and an inappropriate scene entirely unrelated to the rest of the story. Was quite disappointed by that almost walked out. Otherwise, scenery done well, and I always love Hugh Jackman!

A man, thoughtless in his youth of deeds and their results, now old, full of regrets and self loathing, shows his change by helping, a friend, an Abbey, a little traumatized girl, and then, so tired and weighed down by his past, chooses his own death. This was one of Hugh Jackman’s best roles. I wanted to cry at all the mistakes of his youth, only alluded to, that literally killed him. Just beautiful.
