What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Devil All the Time's descent into darkness can be harrowing to the point of punishment, but it's offset by strong work from a stellar cast.

The Devil All the Time has the pretensions of a mythopoetic story that's chipping away at a community's dark underbelly. But here the misery is as belly-up and eager to be noticed as a house cat or a dead fish. Go to Full Review

There are instances of heart and significance scattered throughout the film, but it too often gives into its wandering nature and stops itself from ever making a lasting impression. Go to Full Review

Marco L @decatur555 Oct 22, 2026 A dark, murky and absorbing gothic melodrama about violence, religion, guilt and survival. I liked it because it pulled me into a rotten world of fanatics, predators, false saints, corrupt cops and broken families, while still giving me an emotional thread through Arvin. Tom Holland surprised me in a very good way: dry, contained and painful, he makes Arvin’s rage and survival feel real. Robert Pattinson is also memorable as a repulsive preacher who uses faith as a mask for desire, abuse and power. The atmosphere is one of the film’s strongest points: deep America, poverty, churches, roads, woods and rooms where something bad always seems near. It is excessive, with too many characters, deaths and misery, and at times it tries to fit too much novel into one film. But I found it magnetic rather than empty. Not perfect, but powerful, well acted and hard to shake off. See more Anna M @flamartinez Oct 18, 2026 The Devil All the Time is an excellent film, with outstanding performances, especially by Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson. It is a film that makes us reflect on our family heritage, our family relationships, and the patterns we carry throughout our lives, especially within a small-town culture shaped by traditions, beliefs, and values passed down through generations. The film encourages us to think about what we choose — or don’t choose — to carry with us for the rest of our lives. It is a very well-crafted film, with excellent performances and many highlights that go far beyond the story being told. See more David M @macleodds Sep 21, 2026 It must, at the very least, get 4 stars for all the performances: Robert Pattinson absolutely owns this movie, and Holland, Skarsgard, Laferty, Keough, and Stan all disappear within their roles. This movie has a dark, spellbinding energy; not everyone will enjoy living in the depressing plot but for those that can, it’s an amazing movie. See more Ricky P @pricetattoo Sep 15, 2026 Story is heart breaking and gritty. Accents are perfect for the location of the film. Some of Tom Hollands and Robert’s best work. Southern Gothic at its best. See more Amber W @RT84237670 Aug 30, 2026 Weird religion movie, don’t like it See more Drew F @Drewfrost20 Aug 29, 2026 This movie does a lot of things right!
