[Pruitt Taylor Vince] knocks it out of the park in this movie. Just about every time he walked on frame he just gave me chills. He's such an unsettling presence in this film.

The Devil's Candy isn't particularly bloody in and of itself. It suggests acts of terrible evil far more than it shows, and is all the more intense for it. Highly recommended.

Sean Byrne's assured second feature is so in on the satanic joke, it sometimes feels like a comedy. In its final turn, it brings the pain; it's definitely a horror movie but a wonderfully witty one, not for gentle souls.

Sean Byrne has directed only a few feature-length films, but each has been unique and a delightful addition to the horror genre. This was my first viewing of "The Devil's Candy" from 2015, and what a great experience. Byrne crafted a story that is warm and inviting with a family you can get behind and their shared love of heavy metal. Yet, it is all seamlessly woven with a dark and menacing atmosphere that oozes from its devilish intent throughout, featuring messy, human, character-driven violence. The strong direction and sound mixing created one of the most uncomfortable and suspenseful films I have seen. I swear I could feel it creeping over my skin. This descent into mental health and Satanic possession has all round great performances from Ethan Embry, Shiri Appleby, and Kiara Glasco, with Pruitt Taylor Vince delivering a standout and unsettling performance with his screen presence.
